XC70--07 or 08?

After 25 years of driving nothing but Volvo 240s w/ ipd sways), I'm considering downgrading to an 07 or 08 XC70. I've been concerned about reliabilty/maintenace/repairs but hear that's much better now. Have been hearing recently (from people who like the XC) that it's solid but sort of boring to drive. Will ipd sways up the fun factor? I posted earlier about the 07 v. 08 (but now can't find that earlier post) but do remember someone saying that the 2.5T should be much better on mpg than the six in the new XC. Any advice/thoughts?
