Fuel line question 850 1994

Hi all,
I recently repalced my fuel pump and am now experiencing a problem with my car surging at idle from 500 to 1000 rpm for a short time before stalling 0ut completely. I have tested the IAC valve and it seems OK. While replacing the fuel pump I did break the nipple on the fuel return line and it which caused it to leak quite a bit. I intend on replacing the line but for now simply attached a piece of equivilant diameter fuel line with hose clamps. This temporary line does not leak but is several inches longer than the original line and does not have the 90 degree bend at the end. Could this minor difference possibly be causing a difference in pressure and in turn cause the engine to surge? As usual any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Joel
