Hi all. This post will sound familiar, but I would appreciate advice. I have a '95 854T that I really like. I wanted to add a wagon, and my first thought was "I really like the 850, and I know how to work on it, why not buy an 855T?" I started looked at '95 855T's, because you can read and reset the codes yourself.
I never found one I liked enough to buy - you know, it is getting harder and harder to find a good example of this car. I have come into some money, but as always I'd rather not spend it :). I good used car with low miles is an attractive alternative.
So, just recently I saw the 2005 V70 2.4T is rated at 21/30 mpg and 208hp. I am very interested in fuel economy, so this caught my eye. I then noticed there is a 2005 T5 that gets similar to mine - 19/26mpg but with 236hp, so I am assuming the 2.4T is the equivalent of an updated GLT with a bit more hp.
First, I haven't found one close to drive. The advice I seek is regarding how I might view ownership of this model after I purchase. Will the light Turbo be a noticeable step away from my Turbo? Will working on the car be completely different than the '95? I assume the problem spots will have changed. Though I may be disappointed if I don't have to think about the RMS leaking, A/C parts failing prematurely, seat back cables coming loose, spring spring seats failing, I know there will be work to do. I saw a comment somewhere the 2005 transmission was "lousy" (?). I am concerned over not being able to read my own codes. Is there an economical tool solution (<$300) that will avoid trips to the stealer?
If anyone can shed light on 2005 V70 ownership it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I am looking at 2WD only.
Thanks in advance! Don
