checking vacuum hoses 850 1993

i have a surging idle problem so i wanted to check my vacuum system. how do i actually check the hoses? visually? or take them off and see if they hold pressure?

what about the corners? is it ok to flex them to check for cracks?

any hints and clarifications appreciated.
