'01 S60 2.4T alternator S60 2001

Group:
The alternator in my '01 S60 2.4T just quit and the local very competent indie shop got another one. However they sent the wrong one. He says mine had a "clutch" sort of thing on the pulley end ands the replacement did not. I have not seen either one.

Question is what is that "clutch" and what is it for?
