Rear Bumpstop Replacement V70-XC70 1998

I need to replace one of the rear bumpstops on a '98XC. The rubber bumpstop had a molded-in retaining "nub" which broke off. I'd like to know the easiest method to get the loose bumpstop out of the spring (it won't fit through the coils)and also if it is possible to replace it with the other style bumpstop which is retained by an expanding plastic pin. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
