I currently own a 1964 1800s and am considering purchasing a 1995 glt turbo as daily transportation. It's in excellent condition,it has 120k miles but has been regularly serviced, and carefully maintained. My 18 year old son is also interested if I don't buy it, but I need some advice.
Would you trust driving a well maintained 850 turbo with 120k miles on long trips (700-1500 miles once a year), or is that getting to a dangerous milage level? If I buy it for myself, I would need to use it for some long trips (hopefully for about 4 more years). I'm just not familiar if the 850s have the same longevity as the old Volvos like my 1800.
It's an automatic trans. Can I expect trouble at some point soon?
If my son buys it, is an 850 turbo an expensive vehicle for an 18 year old to maintain on a limited income? It currently needs nothing, and was just inspected. I'm also concerned that his insurance may be high due to the turbo. I'll definitely be calling my agent BEFORE purchase.
Is it difficult to handle on snowy roads (with a mud & snow tread)?
Can it be safely run on regular gas? I realize there will be power loss. I'm just concerned about damage.
Thanks for any tips
Mike
