FYI, brakes rattle going over bumps

Last week, my wife told me she found a new rattle. As I test drove her Audi A4, I found that the rattle would go away if the brake was applied.
So, plastic hammer in hand, I took off the front wheel and tapped everything in sight. When I hit the caliper, it rattled!

It turned out to be the inside brake pad that was loose. The 3 pronged spring that fits into the caliper piston was not strong enough. A pair of needle nose pliers bent the 3 prongs out a little farther and now the noise is gone.

So be careful when putting those new pads on your car, the spring clips need to apply tension to the piston. If it feels loose, tighten them up.
