Dino versus synthetic--an anecdotal tale 850

Just thought I would relate my conversion from dino oil to synthetic.

'96 850 N/A Wagon bought new. Changed oil (Castrol 10W30) every 3-4 K most of the time. During the winter, when I had to work outside, there were times that this stretched to 7-8K.

Anyway, always noticed gunk and crud buildup in the engine, and in the flame trap, and the hoses, etc., etc., etc.

Engine ended-up suffering terribly from sludging and I swapped it out with a very clean (80K) junkyard item at about 120K. After three, or four, quick, 2K oil changes to clean the engine I converted over to synthetic and I'm now changing the synthetic every 5K. I'm now past 150K

What a difference! ! !

The engine always stays clean. When I check the flame trap, etc., everything looks brand-new.

I am amazed at the difference between the two kinds of oil. Even though it is more expensive, I am now permanently sold on synthetic.
