Hi,

I have a 1993 850 w/ 182,500 miles. About a month ago, I was stopped at red light. When I pressed the accelerator, all of my dashboard lights flashed on, and my speedometer went to 0. I kept pressing the accelerator, and I was able to get home 1/2 mile away.

My mechanic thought it was the alternator. He put in a newly rebuit alternator and recharged my battery. I picked it up 3 days ago. It worked fine for 1 day. After a short trip, I went to restart my car 2 min. later, turned the key, there was no sound but all of the dashboard lights were on. NAPA checked my battery - 87% readout. I tried to start, and there is a whirring start-up (not a rumbling) sound like the engine is trying to turn over, but the car never starts. My mechanic still thinks it's the battery.

Any other suggestions?
