New rear tires for a 2002 XC70 Cross Country V70-XC70

I need to buy new rear (for some reason the front ones still have plenty of meat) tires for my Volvo. A friend I know (who runs a repair shop) recommends I get Michelens and said he will get them for me at his cost. I really can't afford 250.00 per tire. Can anybody recommend a good tire for my car that is a reasonable price - 100.00 - 150.00 per tire - and am I out of line for thinking I can get a good tire for around $100.00?
