I have a 2001 XC70 with 104,000 miles on it. The tranny has started shifting strangely again, I'm on the third tranny, and since I have seen this before believe it to be dead fluid. I now realize I have not heard the fan run after turning off the engine in a few months. I believe it should have run a few weeks ago when I made a long highway run. I was running at 80mph for nearly two hours, pulled off into a rest area and realized the fan was not running.
I took the car to my local dealer here in Italy but have a bit of a communication issue relaying what I think is wrong and need tested. I got the car back and they had not found any engine diagnostic codes. From what I remember on my 2000 V70XC, the fan and relay were not in the generic engine scan, I want to believe it was a tranny code scan the Volvo dealer in NY did to determine a dead relay on the older model.
What can I do to test for bad relay or fan? I know one of the two is not working.
As a side note, the tranny still works well, just starting to shift like we've seen before when the fluid went dead. I have everything to do the fluid flush but want to get the fan fixed also so I don't turn around and burn it up again.
