I've got low compression on the #5 cylinder, about 125 PSI, and a leakdown check verified it is blowing past the rings, not valves. The car only has 105,000 miles, I've had it since 65,000, and kept oil changes and maintenance up to date, including replacing the PCV bits and peices. Don't know about the prior owner's maintenance or driving habits, though. Truth is,I suspect they never reved the engine much, and I do occasionally redline it, and suspect I broke a ring, though a ridge on a 65,000 mile car seems odd, and for a ring to break 30,000 miles later (I've lived with this a while). Now, my oil consumption is way up, (1 qt/ 500 miles) along with blue smoke from the tail pipe. So I may really have some mechanical damage.
Just on the off chance that somehow I have sticky rings, is there any nsake oil that really helps free rings? I'd like to try it before I go for a rebuild or engine swap.
