98 S70 Transmission

The S70 is my daughter's car that I'm getting ready to do a major service interval since to my knowledge it's never been done. She has 150,000 mile and was serviced by Volvo up to around 90K. In researching I asked her for the VIN and I then translated that to show a AW55-50SN transmission (code 5579W). I didn't think that model went back that far. The owners manual calls for ATF Dexron III or Mercon oil, but it's commonly discussed here that the correct fluid is Mobil 3309 or equivalent for this model transmission. I'm no rookie, but now I'm confused. My V70 T5a uses 3309, and the VIN Code says it's an AW42.

Does all this sound right? Comments please!
