Roof Strip Peeling question 850 1996

I a have a 1996 850 Turbo sedan that has problems with the two roof strips cracking and peeling. I remember a fix a while back using a paint available at automotive stores but I do not remember what is was called. Anybody know and have tried it? How was the result? Am I better off just buying new stirps. I am a student so the cheapest fix would probably do me best.
