Makeshift Ram Air 850 1996

I own a '96 Volvo 850 (not turbo). I have been reading/hearing a little bit about how some people run a piece of piping or hose from somewhere (where, I dont know) out to the front grille, as a kind of makeshift ram air induction. Does anyone know anything about this? From the little I have heard, it sounds easy and cheap enough for a newbie like me to do. Thanks.
