Console light and Gas cap door 850 96

My console light has been out for about six months now. However, about once every 3 -4 weeks it will come on and stay on for the rest duration of my drive. When I restart the car it will not work again for several more weeks. I have not replaced the buld because it is a hassle for me to do and expensive to have replaced by a mechanic. Would anyone know if this problem is not the bulb, since it come on occasionally or could it be something else?

Another strange problem is the locking door for the gas cap. It stopped working about four months ago. I found the lever in the trunk to release it manually. The crazy thing is that about once a month the lock engages and I have to release it manually. Why doesn't it stay released? Is this difficult to fix?
