SRS Seat belt fault code 850 94

I got a driver's side seat belt tensioner fault code. The dealer asked me if I was sure I was not involved in an accident. I was "pretty" sure I was not. I started the car and the light came on and has stayed on. Have any of you had this problem? The fix is not cheap. Does this one problem render the whole SRS inoperable?
