850-T5 vs V70 - which is better? 850 1997

Hello there,

I live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Currently I have a 940GLE, 16 valve, 1991 model. If you have been visiting the 940 section you may have come across some of my posts. Anyway, the reason I am now hogging the limelight in this section is because I am intending replace the 940. The damn government has announced a price hike of 20 cents per litre of petrol (local currency). I was told that both 850-T5 and V70 are economical cars compared with 940. Besides my car is a bit old and I think its about time I get rid of it. But I don't know which car to choose. Should it be 850-T5 or V70. I don't want to drive a saloon anymore.

I have heard of the 850's transmission problems but the opinions differs amongst the mechanics here. As for V70, I have no idea of its problems particularly transmission problems. I have seen my mechanic replacing a secondhand trans. in the 850 models. He said thats the problem with 850 models and it costs a bomb to buy a secondhand used trans.

So can anybody please help me with some common problems with these two models, how about the fuel consumptions of these two models, what year models to avoid, and what are the things to look for when I go around looking for my next car.

thanks.

velan
