How much clearance between the wiper arm and hood? S40-V40 2001

Picked up the '01 today.
It looks in very good shape, but I really didn't get too into it since it was quite cold outside.

Anyway, when I open the hood, the left wiper arm will rub against the hood on the way up. The part of the arm that hits is at the hinge.
I thought that maybe the left and right arms were somehow switched so I pulled them off. I could then see that the arms are labeled LHD Dr. & Pa. So they were in the right place after all.

Can't figure out why the left one is hitting yet.
So, is it very close where the hood passes over the wiper arm?
