walbro fuel pump 850 1995

I am replacing the fuel pump on my 1995 850 NA with a Walbro. I have read a lot of postings on this replacement however there is one issue I do not see addressed. If you seat the walbro in the black rubber washer at the bottom of the inner case as the old pump was mounted the walbro is too long and hits the bottom of the tank. From looking at other pumps on the net it appears I have the correct pump. Thanks for any input.
