bad replacement alt ? voltage reg. ? 850 1993

my son bought a 1993 850 n/a sedan with 188k. it was sitting for over a year. I threw a good battery in it and got it running but it had very low power and all dash warning lights are still on.
I replaced the alternator with a used ebay one but it isn't charging.I think I will start by checking the alt. ground wire and then taking out the voltage regulator and checking the brushes.
thoughts ?
