Last Saturday, as we were merrily cruising along an interstate highway in Maryland, our '99 V70 T5M with 42K miles on it, started running really rough and the check engine light came on. We pulled over to the shoulder and called Volvo On-Call and 1 hour later a flatbed tow truck arrived and took me, my wife, two kids, and the car to a nearby Volvo dealership. Two hours later it was diagnosed; zero compression on cylinder four as a result of a blown valve. I just spoke with the service writer and they are still waiting on the parts before they can begin repair.

PS. One plus is that they did have a V40 loaner car to let us use until our car is fixed. I do not really care for the power lock button next to the radio, having to use the key to open the trunk every time, and the cruise control light being on when the cruise control button is on (instead of when actually in use like on my V70). This car is much lighter than my V70 so I can see how a V40 T4 would really fly. I think Volvo is missing the boat by not offering it.
