Loud noise S40-V40 2000

My daughter's 00 S40 started making a noise coming from the front of the car. As I accelarate I dont hear anything,but as I easy pressure from gas pedal I hear a relatively loud noise(ta-ta-ta) or if I press on the brake . The noise tends to fade as the car comes to a stop.Car has 80K miles.Any ideas? Tks
