Why are there two bleeder valves? V70-XC70 1998

I just flushed the brake fluid this weekend and to my surprise I found two bleeder valves on the rear calipers, (one on the fronts.) Can anyone comment on this design? I only opened one for flushing should I have flushed both? Thanks.
