Cleaning..how to clean car and in front of windshield before the hood? V70-XC70 2001

When I go to wash my car, I have some small leaves that have fallen in the gutter or area before the hood on my 2001 v70 xc. Most of the area is wide and easy to clean. I can even lift the hood and access more of the area. But there are two holes about an inch in diameter with small grates covering the whole. Where do the leaves and dirt go that slip through the cracks? Is there a way to track this down and clean it out? Will this be a problem down the road?


My second question is how do fellow xc owners restore the plastic trim around the car? Mine is faded a bit and I would like to bring it back.


Third, is waxing this car not recommended?
