RE: advice on 2000 XC70 with damaged oil pan V70-XC70

Hi. Looking at an XC70 for sale (will be sold early Wed afternoon).
It has 266K kms. Looks to be in nice shape.

However, the previous owner drove over a clump of snow on the highway this past winter (something hard hit the oil pan and caused a hole).
He did not notice anything and kept driving until the oil light came on.

It was left at his local garage since. They did take the pan off for a further look.

So it is being sold assuming the engine is no good. Hoping there was no permanent damage.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

What are those other parts in the bottom pics?

What is the likelihood of the engine working by changing the oil pan/gasket and doing an oil change?

Is changing the engine/transmission like on an 850T despite less room?
eg. ~10 hours labour.

Any suggestions on towing other than a flatbed?

I know that it's probably better to buy a later XC70 with the Haldex system.

Thanks.
