Well my 1998 XC with 160K did the no-start deal again today. Tried to start it for 5 minutes - turns over and nothing. I got out and pulled the main fuel pump fuse to check it - and dropped it into the engine bay. WTF! Had a spare fuse (25 instead of 20) and put it in - car starts? The dropped fuse did not look bad, so I am not sure I found the issue at hand. The car did this same deal 6 weeks ago and was towed to shop (no problem found and it started for them) and not a peep since - I did replace the fuel pump relay with a new one from FCP then. I have two new cam position sensors on hand (previously purchased for an 850) and plan to replace that as another possibility.
I hate random no-starts, as my indy garage wants the car when it fails to start. The last time I had it towed, it started upon arrival. I a getting a bit of an exhaust smell on start-up and it has a code for the front o 2 sensor showing. Not sure how to approach this one - it runs well, but I think the gas mileage is poor, so that might be an ancillary issue too!
Any ideas - I love the car so far ( had it since March)
