Rear engine oil leak - what's this? V70-XC70

Hello, 1998 XC70 which has had a rather heavy oil leak for a long time now and I am finally trying to track it down, rather than add oil all the time. I put the front of the vehicle up on ramps, crawled under, and saw this....(see picture). It looks like something should be attached to it and therefore possibly the cause of the leak? It is on the rear of the engine, passenger side, above the right front wheel driveshaft. Also by the looks of all the oil under the car the leak is indeed on the passenger side somewhere.
