Exhaust fumes in cabin 850 1993

Ever since I purchased my 93 850 a couple of months ago I've noticed a exhaust fumes smell coming into the car when the fresh air vents are turned on. If I switch to recirulating mode the exhaust smell goes away. I have had the cars exhaust system checked out by a Volvo dealer and they found only the tailpipe rotted and replaced it, but that didn't fix the problem. I can even smell exhaust fumes when I roll down the drivers window (like when I'm at a gas station) or when standing in front of the car! I took a look under the hood and the exhaust system & manifolds look fine, everything still looks like new. The car has 80K miles on it. What else can I look for?
