Gas Milage 850 1996

Just bought a 96 850 T wagon with 93,000 miles. Love the car so far but I am getting terrible gas milage. The car is overdue for the 90k service which includes spark plugs,air filter cartridge replacement(with control module box filter) whatever that is. Could these be causing the low milage (around 11mpg)?Also ,it seems to get slightly better gas milage in sport mode. Is this normal?
