This morning (Sunday) I discovered that my S70's power steering fluid tank was totally empty. The hose at the bottom of the PS tank was soaked and it looked like the tank may have even leaked from the cap. Coolant tank directly behind the PS tank was full and dry on the outside.
Friday: I drove the car approximately 120 miles with no symptoms or noises that would indicate PS problems. That night I parked the car nose first in the garage.
Saturday: I drove the car approximately 80 miles with no symptoms or noises that would indicate PS problems. That night I backed the car in the garage.
Sunday: I noticed large puddles at both ends of the garage, indicating that the PS tank leaked after both drives. Still no symptoms or noises that would indicate PS problems during a two mile test drive.
Questions:
1.) Are S70s known for power steering fluid leaks? If so, what are the common causes?
2.) What replacement fluid do you recommend? The owner's manual says ATF - any specific recommendations? (the fluid that leaked was green.)
Car has 31K miles, no problems noted at the 30K check up.
Thanks for any help with the issue. I hope to investigate it further tomorrow.
