engine overheating 850 1995

About one week ago my check engine light came on after merging on the freeway. I was going about 80 mph when it happened, and the temp guage was in the red. I got off the highway as soon as i could and steam was comming out of the coolant cap. I let the car cool down and and tried to fill the tank with the engine running and water would just jut out, then i discovered that the thermostat had not opened(cold upper hose)so i had it towed and the volvo dealer said that the check engine light came on at 128c which is about 262f. The dealer said that the car is fine (new thermostat)but he said that the head gasket could fail sometime in the future. But that was just a mabye,as he also said it might not give any trouble at all. the car has only 55k on it and is a turbo. I have driven the car 500mi since and it has run perfectly. My question is should i keep this car or should i sell it before possible engine problems? P.S my wife just loves this car! and does not want to part with it.
