HELP!
I've drained my coolant 1/2 gallon, pulled the upper radiator and expansion
tank hoses from the t-stat housing, but the 2 large torx screws that hold
the t-stat housing to its base are extremely reluctant to budge.
Is it common for these suckers to require an ungodly amount of torque in
order to break them free, or should I leave this potentially destructive
operation to a professional?
My torx bit is a 1/4" hex, not especially high quality but in excellent
condition. I have a Craftsman 1/4" socket (1/4" drive). The required
torque seems very excessive for 1/4" tools. Larger tools have trouble
reaching one of the 2 large torx screws. Is the answer a better tool (3/8"
drive torx bit?), to more easily apply more torque?
Engine is completely @ ambient temp (~ 55 dF).
