Ash tray 850 1996

My ashtray came open and won't close. I have one of those touch ashtrays that open with just a touch. I took it out from the console and can't see anything wrong. I figured it might be broke and called the dealer for a replacement. It cost $165!! I decided to see if maybe anyone had any ideas. It won't stay closed. I don't use it however I would like it to stay shut. Thanks
