I have a T5 V70 with 60,000 plus miles I purchased last September. Coolant was almost black colored, decided to change it, thought it would be a simple job. Disconnected lower radiator hose, and opened drain on back side of motor. Let all coolant drain out (I thought). Then ran hose with clean water through system and watched it run out the radiator hose and drain cock. Then started and ran motor with no coolant in it for around 30 seconds hoping to flush out whatever was left in the system through the water pump.
I then closed everything back up and started adding undiluted coolant. The manual sez the system holds 7.6 quarts of coolant, however, I was only able to get one gallon of preston a/f into the system before it filled up the expansion tank. Ran car for 15 minutes with heater on full, then drove it a few miles. Coolant level in expansion tanked dropped about 2 inches, that was it. Topped system off with clean water. Am concerned that I didn't put anywhere near 7.6 quarts of coolant (or water) in the system.
Car ran normal temperature and doesn't seem hot.
So how come I was only able to put one gallon of coolant in the system? Where is the rest hiding??? Did I do something wrong?
