Nasty Drivetrain Sound with Wheel Spin (snow) S70 99

With the first snow of the season, I was trying to get into my driveway the other night and it was a bit slippery.

When one of the wheels begins to spin I can hear a noise that I can best describe as if a gear wasn't completely engaged (if it were a manual tranny, which it isn't) and the RPM's were low (not gear "grinding", but if you grind the gears in a manual tranny without revving the engine much).

It appears ever time a wheel spins on ice - but otherwise runs smooth as ever.

Is this part of the traction control or should I bring it in?
