Xmas Eve woes with XC70

Hi,
My wife & I stopped in last pm at a friend`s Xmas Eve party. Driving separate vehicles I left in my truck but got got a message at home that her XC wouldn`t start.
We drove back this am thinking it was a weak battery but after trying to boost it with nothing but a "clicking" noise I`m now thinking it`s possibly the starter. My wife tried to lock the car with remote but it wouldn`t lock & the side indicator lights started to blink off`n`on.
Ideas here?? This XC that we kinda` love is getting expensive!!
