Seat Heater Weight Responsive? 850 '94

Why I have never noticed this before but...if I turn the seat heater on while warming up the car and nobody sitting on the seat, the heater doesn't work.

Once in the car and driving away, I will turn the switch off, then on again...the seat heats up immediatly. Is there a weight sensor on this early 850 model?...just curious. (no jokes about the weight of my Butt please!)
