1995 850 turbo sedan with (sometimes) incorrect signal from gear position sensor only in cold weather 850

My 1995 850 turbo sedan occasionally gives me the A1 code 3-1-3, incorrect signal from gear position sensor, only when the weather is really cold. I reset it, and then go for quite some time (and miles) until it does the same thing again. In the meantime, it runs great. Is there a way of taking care of this myself, although I am an 'elementary' DIY? Would this be an expensive fix? This car has only ~ 205k miles (I bought it new) and no other serious issues.

1995 850 Turbo sedan, a really great car
2006 2.5T S60, a very nice car my other half drives
2011 Forester Premium manual (the turbo not available in manual)
