I'm looking at a nice 2006 2.5T v70 with 35K (automatic). It has been owner maintained. He is a competent machinist and has logged the oil changes in the owner's manual every 4-5K. He had purchased the extended warranty which goes until 2013 or 75K. This is transferable and will offer some good peace of mind.
The car looks clean and drives well. I plan on putting Mobile 1 into the crankcase if I buy it and immediately changing the transmission oil.
Here is the issue:
There are no receipts for oil and filters. Will this make warranty repairs challenging? I am going to get a compression test anyway and buyer's inspection which should reveal improper oil change intervals. If each cylinder checks out, at the inspection, this should establish a good baseline and could be additional proof of maintenance if I ever need a warranty repair.
That said, I think the main issue that I want to insure is the prospect of transmission failure. I will be putting 15-20K of highway miles on the car annually and would benefit from 2-3 years of being under warranty.
Anyone have experiences with Volvo warranty repairs? Are they easy to deal with?
Also, he has done only oil changes. What else should be done by 35K--I will use this as a negotiation point.
Thanks very much in advance.
