Thanks for the help everyone, I just fixed the shift lock solenoid in my 850. You would have never guessed what the problems were. Just a little history for those who care to know... I started out R&R the microswitch, but had no luck. Replaced the solenoid and microswitch with new kit from Volvo, still no luck. Pulled out the ole trusty Fluke 89 meter and began to probe away into the nite. Had +13V at solenoid behind the microswitch, .0005 ohms of resistance at ground, and still no working solenoid. Froze my rear off (+15 deg F outside) and quit for a few days. Ripped the center console out again and began to do more probing. Did a load test of the +13V at the solenoid and found that there was no real current flow. After posting some questions about the circuit, and getting many great replies, I tore into the prake pedal switch. Ah ha! Found one of the 4 contacts within the switch to be nasty and some sort of funky. The contact looked like the points out of a 68 dodge charger with serious ignition issues.(which I have one of as well) Anyhow, I filed, sanded, and polished the bad contact and then hit it with a gold plating machine. Re-installed the bugger and now have a working shift lock solenoid. Damn, what a pain in the a$$! All that work replacing the solenoid just to find it was good. Err, guess next time I will bench test before I replace. But, I just wanted to share my adventure with everyone else and to thank all that graced me with their input and ideas. Thanks again!
Sincerely
Prospero
