Is anyone aware of a source of V70 and/or XC failure statistic data for 1999 or 2000 models. Kino's (http://kinovolvo.cjb.net/)does not provide data for models later than 1998.

My key question is whether the failure statistics (problem areas) have been improved on the 2000 XC relative to the 1998 models? Are there particularly high failure rates with the all wheel drive mechanisms on the Cross Country forexample?

I am the process of evaluating whether to buy an extended warranty on my 2000 Volvo V70 Cross Country. The cost of the warranty in the US for $200 deductible extended warranty is $1625, $1760 and $1985 respectively for a 5, 6 or 7 year 100,000 mile extended warranty. A 6 year 125,000 mile warranty is $2195.

In summary I would like know or determine if the failure statistics justify the cost of the extended warranty.

In general I would think it is safe to that the warranty costs exceeds average repair costs since the insurers make a profit.
