At all speeds and engine temperatures, the engine will intermittently begin to stall. On the highway, it feels like the compressor cutting in (but the AC/defroster is off). At an idle, the car will actually stall out when the problem occurs. Car is not putting out any OBDII codes. Our mechanic said the fuel pressure went up each time it stalled. But he isn't sure if it went up because the engine died or if it actually caused the engine to die from delivering too much fuel. Have not noticed any unusual smell from it burning too rich.
Since fuel pressure regulators, air mass meters, EGR valves, and the like are all pretty pricey, I'm reluctant to just start replacing. Any help out there? Thanks.
