Are your foglights pitted/sand blasted

Several years ago, I noticed that my fog lights lenses were in dismal shape. Pits from rocks and sand blasted to the point that I could no longer see the bulb. This solution will work for 850/70 from 1993-2000 that have plastic fog lenses.

I found someone else with the same problem, but he had a solution. Paint the lenses with automotive clear coat! I bought the smallest can I could find.

I removed the lenses by taking out the 3 T15 screws. With 400 grit sand paper, I smothed the surface and cleaned the plastic. Do not try to get the pits out, you only remove enough plastic to make the lense uniform. BTW, leave the lense on the mount, it will not come off.

I wiped all of the dust off the lense, placed one on a newspaper, and applied a thin layer of clearcoat. One hour later, I applied a second and slightly thicker coat. One hour after that, I applied a third coat.

Now I can see the bulb! Plus all of the SAE writing on the lense! The fog lights are now usable again. Beats spending $150 for a new one. I just did it again, after 3 years. It only took 5 minutes to sand off the old clear coat.
