some thoughts on maintenance, tires 850 97

It's a bit difficult tracking down all the stuff I need for my big 50K miles maintenance/new tires event. Don't get me wrong, I love my T5 - the safety, power. And I've never had an error code or check engine lite come on (knocking on wood now).

Finding spark plugs - one Schucks Auto around here said they could special order Bosch Plats, another said they weren't made for my T5 anymore. I may go with the Bosch +4 ($6 each) or maybe just the Champion plats. Dealer said $40 for a set of Volvo plugs, no thanks.

Had to go to IPD for Mann oil filter, Bosch fuel filter - nothing around here. Ordered Haynes '93-97 Volvo 850 book from Amazon.com ($14, Amazonians rated it 4.5 stars) - again, the auto parts places' book collections were sparse.

Tires. Man what a time finding 205/50/16's in a decent brand/model is. In fact, I've given up. I'm getting Dunlop sp Sport 5000's in the 55 aspect. Discount Tire: $104 + $15 + $2.50 + $2 a tire. Cost + install/balance + stem + old tire disposal.

I've got 55's on now (some crappy brand) and they rub a bit. I've replaced the plastic nut that keeps the wheel well plastic secured to the frame (?) twice now. Ok, those are only $.70! I'm crossing fingers for quieter, less thumpy ride and good aqua characteristics. That's not too much to ask, right?

Thanks for reading,
