Hi, It seems that the blower fan(heater/AC) on my 850 is going bad; I went to turn it ON today and all I heard was a faint sound that I suspect was the vent/dmapers(?) opening (then clossing, when switched OFF) and Fuse 5 checked OK. But after I got up to speed on the highway, I tried to fan again and the fan worked OK. I suspect the flow of outside air into the vents, turned the fan just enough to move it past a "dead spot" in the motor(?)
Is this typical of a fan motor going bad, or could it be something in the ECC controller? When the fan works, it seems to be pushing about the same amount of air for its different speed setttings as usual and does not make make any squeaking noises(unlike my 145 and 245..). Ive tried to be conservative in using the fan(knowing how much fun they are to replace, especially this time of year..)I usually switch the fan OFF when driving at highway speeds, as the flow of outside air is quite enough.
It looks as though replacing the fan on the 850 isnt all that bad, merely removing the lower dash panel on the Passenger side, and maybe the glove box should expose it(?) Any tips??
Thanks
Steve
