Hi all! I bought a '96 850 Turbo with 60K miles and the first thing
I did was get the 60K service done and have the transmission oil changed
because a Volvo mechanic I took the car to (prior to the purchase) had
found the color of the transmission oil to be dirty brown and had
recommended the change.
But I saw a couple of mails about transmission reliability (mine has an
automatic) and am worried about it. What signs should I look for that
should set the alarm bells ringing, besides the obvious total failure that
leaves me stranded on the road somewhere. Also, what kind of extended
warranties have the users on this board used ?
Some more questions - what is a PNP switch ? My car has a sport & winter
package ? What do these modes do and is it damaging to the car in any way
if I engaged/disengaged these modes when on the move ? I did not get a
good understanding because the manual does not have very much on it (it
is for a generic 850).
I got some quotes of the internet and WarrantyByNet.com seems to have a
good deal. I have Warranty Gold on my other car but they are too expensive
for the Volvo. Any suggestions ? Thanks for the help.
Oh by the way, what is a PNP switch ?
