Volvo Novice 850

I am in the market for a new Volvo, actually considering the purchase of a 1995 850GLT wagon. My first Volvo, my first import. I am keeping my options open for other years/models. Are there any models in particular I should stay away from? Likewise does any model stand above any of the rest? I would like to purchase a 1995 or newer, more than likely staying between 1995-97 and definitely a wagon.

A couple points. I am not attracted to the thought of doing my own maintenance. I suppose I could, but I am a bit skiddish, as I have never done any of that stuff in the past. I want a car I can drive the hell out of, haul the kids where they need to go, a car with enough personality to throw the dog in the back and not have to worry about her messing something up, and a safe car. All these characteristics point one direction: Volvo.
