Hey guys,
I recently bought one of the infamous 2001 XC70's with 120k miles. Though all the previous Volvos I've owned up to this point have been 240's, I knew the previous owner of this car, and got it for a deal knowing there would be a few bugs to work out.
I'm trying to diagnose the issue with the engine idle - at a stop light, it can flutter between about 700 and 900 RPM, but sometimes surges to about 1300. This is only noticable at a standstill, and happens regardless if I have it in park, neutral or drive. Troubling sometimes is that the engine can surge while I'm braking to a stop, causing the car to lurch forward a bit (though now I anticipate that). However, the check engine light does not come on.
I'm wondering where to start? There seems no shortage of things to check. I considered cleaning the throttle body but I'm not looking forward to removing everything I need to get to it. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
